Folkingham was familiar territory to American airmen

Place

US servicemen from RAF Folkingham could well have worshipped at St Andrew’s Church in the nearby village.

Little changed from World War II, the village is  Georgian gem.

The picturesque marketplace is one of the larger market squares to survive in Lincolnshire. There was also once a substantial castle, a town hall, sessions house, work house and prison, and a gas works.

Places to stay include:

The Barn

The Barn is Grade II listed, built in the 1690s. With RAF Folkingham on the edge of the village, it would have witnessed intense US activity and C-47-aircraft in the air in the build up to D-Day and Operation MARKET GARDEN.
